Creating Your First Route

The first step in creating a manifest will be to select a routing method. There are 3 methods that can be chosen from: Territory, Ship-Via, and Zip Code. Take a look at the description for each below and decide which option will be best for your company's use case. Once you have selected a routing method, follow the link for that method to find instructions for creating your first territory.

Choose a Routing Method

Territory

You will manually create your Territories by drawing them on a map of the delivery area. When you automatically route your orders from the Route Panel, any stops with delivery addresses within the drawn boundary of a Territory will be placed its Route.

There is no limit to how large or small a defined route can be and no limit on the amount territories that can be drawn. More information about routing by Territory and steps for creating this territory can be found here.

Ship-Via

When routing by Ship Via, any order with a ship-via in the list of ship-via's defined for a route, will be automatically added to that route. There is no need to draw territory shapes when routing by this method.

More information about routing by Ship-Via and creating this territory can be found here.

Zip Code

When routing by Zip Code, any order with a zip code in the list zip codes defined for a route, will be automatically added to that route. There is no need to draw territory shapes when routing by this method.

More information about routing by Zip Code and creating this territory can be found here.

Now that you have selected your routing method, let's move on to creating your first Territory/Route! Going forwards, route and territory will be used interchangeably as terms, since creating a territory will also create an associated route. The exact steps may be slightly different based upon which routing method was selected, but the workflow should be relatively the same.

Create Your First Route

The following video will walk you through the steps to create your first Route using the Territory Routing method.

The following video will walk you through the steps to create your first Route using Ship-Vias.

The process for creating a Route using Zip Codes will be the same as the process using Ship-Vias, except you will enter in Zip Codes in the Routing section.

Now that you've created your first Route, let's create your first Manifest for this Route! Before proceeding, you'll need to have some orders prepared that will meet the criteria for your Routing method. If you're using the Territory method, you'll need orders with delivery addresses that fall within the drawn boundary of your Territory. If you're using the Ship-Via or Zip Code methods, you'll need orders with Ship-Vias or Zip Codes that match the Route that you have configured.

Create Your First Manifest

Now that you have created your first route, you'll be able to start creating manifests and having them delivered. To create your first manifest, begin by clicking on the Route Tab in the top right hand corner. On the Route tab page, you'll see the search pane at the top left hand corner.

You'll want to ensure that you have the intended date selected in the field at the top. The Ship-Vias that are listed in the field will be set in the Route Settings, in the Ship-Vias section. Clicking on the "+" icon will allow you to create a group of Ship-Vias. You'll enter in the name of the group in the name field, and add as many Ship-Vias as desired in the bottom field.

The Ship-Vias that are listed in the search pane will act as a filter. If the Ship-Via for the order is not listed, the order will not appear when searching. You'll also see a section titled "Include" with checkboxes for Transfers and PO's. When checked, Transfers and PO's will be included in the search. Once you have confirmed the search parameters, click on the blue search button to search for orders. Applicable orders will then appear under the search pane in the Deliveries to Route section.

Clicking on the green Route button will then place the orders on their respective routes. You'll then see the Routes with orders at the top of the page in the Route Pane.

To create a manifest for Route with added orders, click on the circle icon in the top right corner of the rectangle for the Route (outlined in red below); this will select the Route. You will then click on the Create button (outlined in blue below) to create the manifest. You will see a pop-up that states how many manifests you are about to create. Click on the Continue button to create the manifest.

Once the manifest has been created, you will see the manifest number and associated orders on the left side of the Route Tab page.

The manifest should now be ready to be added in the Deliver app by a driver and delivered. Click here to learn more about what your drivers will see the first time that they download the Deliver app and add a manifest.
